Almost two years ago the Semafores team took a hard look at crowdfunding. We looked at the options for crowdfunding platforms and at the time and effort we would have to spend on the crowdfunding campaign to make it a success. We also considered the likely results. It was clear that it would take considerable effort to organize and run any crowdfunding campaign. It also looked like we were unlikely to raise more than a few thousand dollars. That didn’t seem like nearly enough payoff for the work we would have to put into it, given that eventually we will need much more than a few thousand dollars of funding to make Semafores a success. We put the idea of crowdfunding on the shelf and moved on to other work that we hoped would move us closer to our goal of getting Curi™ into the hands of family caregivers who need it.
Recently we’ve given crowdfunding another look. This time we’ve decided we need to go ahead and launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. These are the reasons why…
While the realities of crowdfunding haven’t changed in the last two years, our needs have. We’re still hard at work building Curi™ but we’re also still not ready to bring it to market. To get there we need to raise some money.
Until now Semafores has been funded almost entirely with money from our founding team. It’s not all gone but it won’t last forever. The money we raise from crowdfunding will keep us going for a few more months, enough time for us to get Curi™ into the hands of our first users, to test it properly so we know it works, and to find the backers we’ll need to take it to the next level.
It’s not about the money
Not just about the money, anyway. Our crowdfunding campaign is also about connecting with our potential users, finding likely early adopters, and building relationships with them, so they are eagerly waiting when Curi™ is ready for them. We’ll give all of our contributors advanced notice of any public releases and invite the more generous to join a private early beta test.
We need your help
We’re planning on going live with our crowdfunding campaign later this month. Once we do, we’d love if you would make a contribution. Any amount will be appreciated and we’ll be sure to thank you for your help, possibly with some gifts. In the meantime, visit our ">coming soon page on Indiegogo to sign up so we can let you know as soon as we launch.
Thank’s for listening. We’re looking forward to hearing from you soon.
